We have developed a solution.
Innovative and nothing less than revolutionary!

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is an innovative, gentle therapy method that has already been successfully used for 25 years for soft tissue injuries in orthopedics. In ESWT, sound waves are directed in a focused manner into specific areas of the body in order to have a therapeutic effect in the target tissue.

Piezo shockwave technology has provided a breakthrough in the treatment erectile dysfunction, Peyronies disease and chronic pelvic pain syndrome by providing a non invasive, non pharmaceutical option. Our Piezo shockwave technology offers unique therapy source designs to meet the specific needs of the each-conditions.

For the treatment of Peyronies Disease, a therapy source that delivers a small, high energy therapeutic focus to treat the plaques is an ideal choice. For the treatment of chronic pelvic pain syndrome an elongated therapy focus is advantageous, taking into account the anatomy of the pelvic floor. The therapy source with the voluminous therapy focus in combination with the new optimised LSTC-ED therapy concept, allowed an improved application technique and therapy results.

All therapies are performed on an outpatient basis without anesthesia. It is painless and takes only a few minutes. The therapy head is positioned on the skin and then moved following the anatomical course of the target tissue.

Clinically proven, evidence based treatments

There are numerous treatment approaches recommended for urogenital disorders. Many of these can potentially be accompanied by strong side effects or have limited efficacy. With Piezo shockwave, we have taken the utmost care in researching and clinically approving our procedures. We are serious about providing evidence based therapies.

FAQ

General questions about shockwave therapy:

How do extracorporeal shockwaves work?
The mechanical energy of the shockwaves is generated extracorporeally (=outside the body) and transferred in a focused manner into the diseased target tissue. There, the mechanical stimulus is converted into positive, therapeutic acting biochemical signals that help the body to repair altered tissue and initiate tissue regeneration.
What are contraindications of ESWT?

In principle, ESWT has few contraindications.
The instructions for use of the ESWT systems contain the stated contraindications. The contraindication for use included in the instructions for Richard Wolf’s therapy sources are as follows:

  • Active tumour disease (especially in the prostate or pelvic area)
  • Penile prostheses
  • Coagulation disorders (prior clarification of the coagulation status may be necessary)
  • Hypogonadism
  • Taking blood-thinning medication
  • etc.

The decision to utilize shockwave therapy despite any contraindications that may be present is at the sole discretion of the attending physician.

Is the treatment painful?
The treatment is based on the “bio-feedback” provided by the patient to the clinician applying the therapy. The intensity of a treatment is individually adjusted according to the patient. Particularly in the treatment of CPPS, patients report a “feeling of well-being” because they feel that the cause of their pain is being addressed.
How long does a treatment take?

Depending on the disease and the patient, the number of pulses can vary and usually lasts only a few minutes.

What do I have to pay attention to during the treatment?
Especially in the treatment of CBSS/CPPS, the patient’s cooperation is essential for long-term therapy success. Exercises for the pelvic floor muscles, dealing with stress and learning relaxation techniques are the first steps a patient can take to positively influence the course of treatment.

Questions about erectile dysfunction treatment:

Who is shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction suitable for?

As with all other treatment options, shock wave therapy is not an option for everyone. There is a simple reason for this: the causes of erectile dysfunction are varied – and a careful diagnosis is important to achieving the goal of the therapy. In principle, shockwave therapy is indicated for vascular erectile dysfunction (see also contraindications). Shockwave therapy can also be a good option if drug therapy is not an option because of possible side effects.

What are the disadvantages of other treatment options compared to ESWT?

Current treatments for erectile dysfunction (e.g. PDE-5 inhibitors, injections (SKAT), vacuum pumps…) have the following problems and disadvantages compared to ESWT:

  • Side effects
  • Only symptoms are treated
  • costly
  • lack of sexual spontaneity
  • dwindling self-esteem
  • psychological distress
How many treatments are necessary?

Of course, every patient and his or her course of disease is different. Number of treatments depends on previous illnesses, concomitant diseases, duration and severity and are therefore difficult to make. On average, patients need 4-8 treatments.

Is the treatment painful?
No. The treatment and regulation of the intensity is done in constant communication with the practitioner. If something becomes uncomfortable, the intensity can be adjusted immediately.

Therapy source designed to support treatment success

The increasing number of shockwave indications demands that treatment focal zones are capable of the appropriate penetration depth, strength, shape and volume. Elvation Medical and Richard Wolf continue to lead the industry in the development of technology that provides targeted focal treatment zones for a wide range of indications. Our goal is to fulfil the requirements of promising, optimally adapted treatments.

The piezoelectric principle – superior and focused

Piezoceramic elements arranged on a concave support are briefly expanded simultaneously in the micrometre range by a high-voltage pulse and generate a pressure pulse. The piezo elements are precisely aligned with the treatment focus. Steepening at the treatment focus results in shock wave formation.

The piezo shockwave is the only shockwave design that uses “direct focusing”. Unlike other designs that require inefficient, unprecise soundwave redirecting piezo technology creates a precise, well-defined focus zone. It is quiet, painless and allows for varied, controlled intensity dosing. Additionally, piezo technology provides exceptional longevity when compared to other technology.
